How the 5% EA tax works

Every time a card sells on the FC 27 transfer market, EA takes 5% of the sale price before the coins reach the seller. The buyer pays in full; the seller gets 95% of it. The tax applies to every sale, whatever the card and the amount, and on every platform: PlayStation, Xbox, PC, the Web App and the Companion App. Its purpose is to take coins out of the game, which keeps prices from inflating over a season.

The tax formula

Two numbers matter when you trade, and the calculator above works out both:

  • What you receive = sell price × 0.95. A 50,000 sale pays you 47,500.
  • Break-even price = buy price ÷ 0.95. A card bought for 50,000 has to go for at least 52,632 to get your coins back.

Because listings go up in fixed steps, round the break-even figure up to the next valid step: in recent games that meant steps of 50 below 1,000 coins, 100 up to 10,000, 250 up to 50,000, 500 up to 100,000 and 1,000 above that. Our calculator gives the exact figure; the game rounds the listing for you.

On a 100,000 card the tax alone is 5,000 coins per sale. That is why small flips rarely pay: a card has to rise more than 5% in value before trading it makes you anything at all.

Trading tips that account for tax

  • Aim for margins well above 5%. Flipping for 3% or 4% loses coins once tax is taken.
  • Use Buy Now and bids together: buying a little below market value is where most profit comes from.
  • Time your sales. Cards tend to fetch more in the evening, when more players are online and buying.
  • Count the tax on SBC fodder too. Selling spare cards to fund an SBC loses 5% each time, so sometimes it is cheaper to keep them.

Trading is the slow way to grow a balance. If you would rather skip it, you can buy FC 27 coins for your platform instead, at live rates that already show the exact total. Want to know where your next big spend should go? The promo calendar shows what is coming.

Tax FAQ

What is the EA tax in FC 27?

EA keeps 5% of every sale on the transfer market. If a card sells for 20,000 coins, the buyer pays 20,000 and you receive 19,000. The tax applies on console, PC, the Web App and the Companion App alike.

Does the buyer pay the tax?

No. The buyer pays the full amount shown on the listing; the 5% comes out of what the seller receives. That is why a card has to sell above what you paid for it before you make any profit.

Is there tax on quick selling?

No. Quick selling sends a card back to EA for a fixed number of coins, with no tax taken. It is just much less than the card is worth on the market.

Is there tax when coins are delivered by Player Auction?

Yes. Player Auction is a normal sale on the transfer market, so EA takes its 5% from it like any other. Right now every order at our checkout goes by Comfort Trade, where there is no listing on your side.
