How to Unlock the Transfer Market
Every new FC 27 Ultimate Team club starts with the transfer market locked. Until it opens you can't buy or sell players, can't trade on the Web App and can't receive FC 27 coins from anyone. The good news: unlocking the transfer market is quick if you know where to look. This guide covers the fast route in the game, the route on the Web App, and every common reason the market stays locked.
What the transfer market does, and why EA locks it
The transfer market is where every card in FC 27 Ultimate Team changes hands. Players list cards, other players bid or buy them outright, and EA takes 5% of each sale. It is the only place to buy a specific player, the main way to turn spare cards into coins, and the route every coin delivery takes into your club, including FC 27 coins bought from a seller. EA keeps the transfer market locked on new clubs to stop bots and throwaway accounts from trading on day one; making players earn access first is one of its main defences against coin farming.
The quick answer
In the game, open Ultimate Team, go to Objectives, then the Foundations tab, and complete the Venturing Out objective group, then claim its reward. That is the route EA's own help pages point to. Some players report needing the next group, Diving In, as well before the padlock disappears. Until then, the transfer market tile in the main menu shows a padlock. In most cases the market then opens on the Web App and Companion App as well.
Step by step: unlocking the transfer market in the game
- Start FC 27 on your console or PC and open Ultimate Team. Create your club if you haven't yet.
- Go to Objectives from the main menu and open the Foundations tab.
- Work through the Venturing Out group. Its objectives walk you through the basics: playing matches, building a squad and completing simple challenges. None of them needs coins or special cards.
- Claim the reward for each objective and for the group as a whole. The unlock only counts once rewards are claimed.
- Return to the main menu. The transfer market tile should no longer show a padlock.
Most players finish this in an evening or two of play. If you are short on time, Squad Battles against the computer are the quickest way through match-based objectives.
How long it takes to unlock the transfer market
For most players the in-game route takes a few hours spread over one or two evenings. The objectives aren't hard; they just ask you to try each part of Ultimate Team once. Earning transfer market access on the Web App through active days takes longer, because it depends on how many separate days you play, not how many hours. If you only play at weekends, expect the Web App route to take a couple of weeks; the in-game objectives are almost always the faster way to unlock the transfer market.
Tips to unlock the transfer market faster
- Play the objectives in order. Later groups often count progress only once the earlier ones are complete.
- Use Squad Battles on a low difficulty for match objectives: they are quick and you can't lose ranking.
- Claim every reward as soon as it is earned, including the group reward at the end.
- Open Ultimate Team in the game on as many separate days as you can; active days help the Web App unlock too.
- Keep the packs from the objectives. Once the transfer market opens, their contents are worth more as tradable cards.
Unlocking the transfer market on the Web App and Companion App
The Web App and Companion App follow your club, so if the transfer market is open in the game it should be open there too. If it isn't, EA says access can also be earned by playing Ultimate Team actively: each day you play counts, and after enough active days the transfer market opens on the apps. That is why returning players with a long Ultimate Team history often have access on day one, while brand-new accounts have to wait. Our Web App guide covers logging in and what else the app can do.
Does it matter if you play on PlayStation, Xbox or PC?
The steps are the same on every platform. What catches players out is switching. PS5 and PS4 share one club, and so do Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, so moving within a family keeps your unlocked transfer market, and your FC 27 coins with it. Moving between families, say from Xbox to PlayStation or from console to PC, means a different club, and that club has to unlock the transfer market on its own. If you changed platform this season and the padlock is back, that is why. On PC the transfer market works the same way as on consoles, but it is a separate market with its own prices.
Why the transfer market is still locked
If you finished the objectives and the padlock is still there, run through this list:
- Rewards not claimed. Finishing an objective isn't enough; each reward has to be claimed before the transfer market opens.
- The wrong group. Make sure Venturing Out is complete, and try Diving In if it still won't open.
- The app hasn't caught up. Restart the game, then log out of the Web App and back in.
- A different club. You might be signed in with a second EA account or on another platform family.
- Server trouble. At busy times, especially launch weeks and promo nights, EA's servers lag behind.
- An account restriction. EA can lock the transfer market on accounts it suspects of breaking its rules; see the section on bans below.
Transfer market bans: when the lock isn't a bug
A small number of locked markets are not about objectives at all. EA can ban a club from the transfer market for a period if it detects activity that breaks its rules, such as selling FC 27 coins for money or suspicious trading patterns, and in that case EA usually tells you by email or with a message in the game. A transfer market ban is separate from a full account ban: you can usually still play, but not trade. If you think a ban is a mistake, contact EA Help; nobody else can lift it.
To keep the transfer market open once you have it, avoid what EA's checks look for:
- Selling coins or accounts, or trading coins to other clubs through overpriced cards.
- Listing common cards at their maximum price again and again.
- Receiving coins from several sellers at once.
- Running trading bots or auto-bidders, which EA detects and bans.
This is also why coin delivery has to be careful. Coins that arrive in one huge trade, or through cards sold far above their value, are what EA's checks look for. Our safety page explains what draws a ban and how to avoid it.
What to do once the market is open
With the transfer market unlocked you can buy the players your team needs on console, PC or the Web App, sell what you don't, and trade for profit. Prices on the transfer market change fast in launch weeks, so check a card's recent sales before you buy it. Remember EA's 5% tax on every sale; our tax calculator shows your break-even price. And if you would rather fill your squad without the grind, an unlocked transfer market is all you need to receive FC 27 coins: you can buy FC 27 coins for PlayStation, Xbox or PC and have them in your club within 2 hours.
